An American Game
“Just as war tore our country apart,
One game brought it back together.”

The year is 1865 and the battered United States looks with hopeful expectation towards the end of the Civil War, only months away. A young officer, Nathan Wheatley, is given command of a Union regiment tasked with the mission of wrestling a secluded bridge from a heavily defended rebel outpost. Realizing that his orders are at best a political move, and at worst, a suicide mission, Nathan decides to take matters into his own hands.

As fate would have it, the Confederates are commanded by Jackson Sinclaire, a childhood friend of Nathan’s who wound up fighting for the enemy when the winds of war moved them onto opposing sides. Under a white flag, Nathan approaches his old friend and offers an alternative to the mass grave staring them all in the face. Nathan proposes rather than charging headlong into the jaws of death, both sides should lay down their weapons and pick up a ball and glove. Instead of fighting, the soldiers should battle on the field of play, over a game of the newly introduced pastime of baseball, winner takes the bridge.

What seems like an easy solution, proves more difficult as Nathan realizes that the sport is so new that almost no soldiers from either side have even heard of it, let alone have any real experience with the game. Both leaders must teach their soldiers the fundamentals of baseball while trying to conceal their wager from their respective regional commands. Nathan must fight for his men, and for the integrity of the sport he has come to love, while battling to keep the war raging all around them from cutting the game and their lives far too short.

Wal-Mart - Family Movie Night Initiatve
Producer, Actor

Working with Ben Simon, Rick Schirmer and Tim Popadic on Wal-Mart's family entertainment package. Partial interview/overview below describing the project when they launched:

Is there really a demand for uplifting family entertainment on television? Some major advertisers like Walmart and P&G seem to think so. As part of their effort to bring more high-quality entertainment to families these two companies are sponsoring their Family Movie Night Initiative.
Mike Parker – So, what exactly is a Director of Brand Marketing, and why are you involved in television programming?
Ben Simon – I am responsible for Walmart's family entertainment programming. We want to support entertainment that brings the entire family together. There is a real sense of concern about the lack of programming that the whole family can enjoy together. Moms in particular are frustrated with having to reach for the remote every time an scene or commercial comes on that may be a little to adult in the middle of a show that is supposed to be appropriate for the whole family.
Parker – Tell me about the Family Movie Night Initiative.
Simon – Last year we launched a campaign called Family Moment. It is designed to help families come together through family entertainment. We have a number of advertising partners who join with us on this. Our research tells us that moms want the opportunity to act as a nurturer for their families, and sitting down as a family to watch great entertainment can help them do that. They don't want entertainment that is so cartoonish that adults don't want to watch it, but they didn't want spinach programming either, you know, stuff you don't like but you watch it because you feel like it is supposed to be good for you.
