The red carpet rolled out at the Paramount Center for the Arts in downtown Bristol on Saturday night.
It was the premiere of the film ‘Believe’, a movie that was shot right here in our region. The film tells the story of community, struggle, and miracles.
"They'll be something in the movie for everybody, and I think that's what I want everyone to take,” said Billy Dickson, writer and director of ‘Believe’. “There's funny things, there's moments where you’re going to cry, and there's moments where your just going to enjoy life and think about what life is all about, and how you can give back in the holiday season."
On the red carpet there was no shortage of excitement. Ryan O'Quinn plays the lead role and is actually from Grundy, Virginia, where the film is based.
"I proposed to the director that we move it from the original film location of rural Pennsylvania, that's what was in the script, and I said I have an idea,” said O’Quinn. “In my opinion the hardest working, finest people on the planet, most God fearing, salt of the earth humans, live where I came from and I want to show you that place.
O'Quinn said ‘Believe’ symbolizes the incredible values and people in our region.
"This entire region is based on relationships and on community,” said O’Quinn. “To be able to have a script that portrays that on film was really sweet, really special."
The film is a big step for Bristol and could bring tourism and even more productions.
"Our region deserves this and more,” said John Rice with the Paramount Center for the Arts. “We have a wonderful region that people need to understand and come and be part of."
Everyone we talked to at the premiere said they would do another movie here in a heartbeat, and some even hinted that there could be another venture in the future.
‘Believe’ comes out in theaters across the country on the 2nd of December.
