BRISTOL, Tenn. – The premiere of the Christmas movie shot earlier this year in Bristol and Grundy, Virginia, is scheduled Oct. 22 during the PUSH! Film Festival.
“Believe,” which stars Southwest Virginia native Ryan O’Quinn, will be shown complete with a red carpet at the Paramount Center for the Arts.
“We will be the East Coast premiere for ‘Believe’ the movie,” Christina Blevins, executive director of Believe in Bristol, said Tuesday. “We have the contract so this is happening. There will be a red carpet Saturday night after our producer’s party. The red carpet will start after 8 p.m. until about 9:15. Then we’ll show the film.”
The movie involves two families from different walks of life who join together to save the town’s annual Christmas pageant. It was co-produced by Matthew Pickett and Katy Bunn-Davidson, who is also from this region. It was written and directed by Billy Dickson.
“In filming, a lot of extras from this area will be in the movie, so we’re expecting a lot of people will be excited to come and see themselves on the big screen,” Blevins said.
O’Quinn has appeared in numerous TV shows, including “JAG,” “Alias,” “Melrose Place,” “Beverly Hills 90210” and films, including “That Thing You Do.”
He portrays the main character, the owner of a small town factory that closes down and can no longer support the holiday activities. In one scene filmed in Bristol, someone attempts to blow up his car.
A crew of more than 100 filmed on both sides of town, including the L.C. King building, two other factories, on Piedmont Avenue, the State Line Bar and Grill, a local convenience store and the former Eastman Antique House.
In Buchanan County, the crew filmed at the county courthouse, on downtown streets, at Buchanan General Hospital, a restaurant in Vansant and Poplar Gap Park.
___
Another local premiere is scheduled for Grundy on Dec 1, the day before the feature opens nationwide. O'Quinn and others will be in attendance.
