A record number of floats streamed through historic downtown Bristol during the annual Christmas parade on Thursday night.
Paula Hurt of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce said there were 201 entries, ranging from marching bands to retailers, in the parade. The previous record of 199 entries was broken, she said.
A number of local officials, and a Hollywood star, were also featured in the parade. The star, Grundy, Virginia, native Ryan O’Quinn, brought a film crew to downtown.
The crew captured the lights and sounds of the annual parade for a new Hollywood motion picture. After cutting a ribbon with local leader, the film crew spent time along State Street.
The movie crew is developing a Christmas movie, titled “Believe,” for Threshold Visions.
“I went all the way to Hollywood to bring producers back to Grundy to shoot a movie,” O’Quinn told the Bristol Herald Courier. “When I read the script, I envisioned the people and the setting of Southwest Virginia.”
Downtown Bristol, which attracted thousands of residents for the parade, will be featured in the film.
